Thursday Fun!

We have started new math jobs with a focus on addition. This is an ongoing skill and opportunities to practice addition at home will support your child’s learning. Adding the number of forks and spoons on your table or the number of boys and girls in your house. Simple activities will help reinforce this skill.

As part of our health unit we have been talking about ways to keep our body and mind healthy. We have been talking about all the different ways we can get exercise. The students are challenged this weekend to do something active. Let us know on Monday what you did to be active.

Congrats to our honesty character education award winners – Catherine and Ava. Thank you for showing great character in our class!

Reminder that tomorrow is a PA day! No class for students. We will be here busy working on report cards.

Lost and Found – we are starting to get a collection of winter wear. If you see anything that belongs to your family, please let us know!

Good Bye Miss. Ryenn

Today we said good-bye to Miss. Ryenn our high school co-op student who has been in our class since the fall!! She was a wonderful help to us and we are all going to miss her!! She brought in cupcakes for us to help celebrate her last day and she also made us ‘ninja balls’ as a tool we can use to get us back into the Green Zone. If we are in the red or blue zone we can squeeze these ninja balls and work on getting ourselves into the green zone. We have also have added some of these to our classroom toolbox.

Graphing

The students are enjoying learning about how to make bar graphs. We have talked about the different elements of a bar and students have been able to come up with their own like/dislike question to ask their friends and graph their results. We sent home a blank graph yesterday so students have the opportunity to try making a graph at home.

Blends

We have been busy learning about the blends ‘sh’, ‘th’ and ‘ch’. We read a book focusing on each of these blends and learned that the blend can be at the beginning of a word, the end of a word or sometimes even in the middle of a word. We went on a blend hunt around the school. The students did a great job finding the blends. We did find that sometimes blends can be tricky and don’t make the sound we think they should. We are challenging the students to look for blends around their house.
